vario PYRO cube

Stable isotope laboratories have ever increasing demands for functionality and versatility. H and O isotopic determination in solids and liquids often require pyrolysis conditions of up to 1,500°C. Oxygen isotope determination of high nitrogen containing samples offers analytical challenges. These same labs also have needs for carbon, nitrogen, and sulfur isotopic as well as concentration determinations. In the past, labs have had to invest in two separate analyzers to cover this range of analysis; one for combustion and the other for pyrolysis.

The vario PYRO cube breaks new ground by combining an up to 1,500°C pyrolysis analyzer with a fully functional elemental analyzer for carbon, nitrogen, and/or sulfur determination with separate combustion and reduction tubes.

The use of the Elementar purge & trap columns results in complete baseline separation of the H2 from the CO peaks. It also fully separates N2 from interfering with the H2 isotopic measurement. The system uses a special back flush system (patent applied for) to remove background bleed of the pyrolysis tube from the CO peaks.

The vario PYRO cube is a member of Elementar's well renown "cube family". The very small footprint is the result of the use of micro design and electronics techniques. Even the power supply for the 1,500°C furnace is incorporated in this compact design with a footprint of only 42 x 55 cm.

Modes

OH; H; O: all available from the basic unit.

Optional CNS mode, optional H with HDChrome

Specifications

High temperature pyrolysis
quantitative sample pyrolysis at up to 1500°C . This is the prerequisite for 100% recovery also with samples difficult to pyrolyse. Equiped with one Siliciumcarbide heater element and a standard reduction oven, it allows full flexibility without any compromise.

Low instrument background
Due to the novel reduction tube construction a very low background signal has been achieved.

Largest dynamic range of element concentrations and element ratio
Sample weight between 0.02 mg and 1 g with up to 1,5 mg O abs., from ppm to 100%

Purge&trap Chromatography
Separation of gaseous components on up to three specific columns for perfect separation without overlap and automatic optimization of the analysis time, A peak separation to the baseline e.g. for CO2 and N2 can be reached even with a concentration ratio of 5000:1

Backflush technology
Specifically equipped with novel backflush technology for perfect nitrogen-carbon monoxide separation for the pyrolysis of oxygen.

Instrument control
with a standard PC for perfect results also for unknown or heavily variable sample matrices with integrated sample feeder for 80 samples. Possibility for remote service due to full digitalization of the instrument electronics

One basic instrument for all applications
No expensive special catalysts, easy ash removal from the combustion tube and long lifetime of all components are the basis for a low cost of ownership

Clean, safe, fast
The analysis only takes a few minutes, no aggressive or toxic chemicals are used, Helium carrier gas

Easy installation requirements
48 x 55 cm benchtop space, 1 power supply (230, 110, 100 V), and two gases are sufficient for maintenance free long time operation

Options

Electronic micro balance:
balance and elemental analyzer form a system. We offer micro balances and analytical balances from the leading manufacturers with our instruments.

Upgrade kit for CNS combustion analysis:
For the combustion analysis for CNS isotope measurements The separation of the combustion gases is performed using the established Purge & Trap method. From the combustion gas the components CO2 and SO2 are adsorbed at two specific columns, whereas N2 goes directly to the TCD in combustion mode.

ChromeHD kit for individual dD analysis of water:
For the application of HD ratios in water in a quartz tube using patented ChromeHD technology for the reduction to H2. Providing dual inlet like precisions.

Capsule press:
for the dosing and gas tight sealing of tin capsules for liquid and sensitive samples. Contains consumables for approx. 500 samples.

vario Liquid Sampler, VLS:
The VLS automated sample feeder is used for liquid injections directly into the combustion chamber.

Sample feeder:
alternative carousels are available for longer sample runs

Manual pressing tool:
for the manual compaction of the wrapped sample.

Consumables

Our kits of consumables contain all necessary parts and chemicals for the corresponding mode. Under more it contains combustion/reduction tubes, all chemicals and instrument specific wear parts. We do not compromise on quality of the used parts and chemicals – this is the prerequisite of a guaranteed long lifetime of our instruments.

Kits of consumables for approx. 4000/2000/1000 analysis

Kit with small wear parts: useful combination of the most important O-rings and fuses for the laboratory.

Of course all the consumables can also be ordered separately, please ask for our brochure!
