Compound specific isotope analysis is a fundamental tool for environmental forensics. By analysing the δ18O and δ2H isotope ratios of groundwater, fluvial waters and soil pore waters it is possible to trace sinks and sources of water in the environment helping to constrain further contaminations of pristine environments.
